TANASI (feat. Billy Cardine, Mary Lucey, Anya Hinkle)
Tanasi, from Asheville, NC, is a “world grass” trio, refracting global sounds through their Appalachian lens.
Tanasi crafts a rich, world-inspired mountain sound, blending the soulful echoes of roots artists from across the globe. As National Endowment for the Arts 2025 USArtists International Grant Recipients, Tanasi is honored to have been chosen to continue fostering cross-cultural creative collaboration, celebrating music’s power to unite, transcend cultures and borders, and reveal the shared rhythms of our humanity.
Tanasi features the tight, sister-like harmonies of MerleFest-winning songwriter Anya Hinkle and Mary Lucey (Biscuit Burners, Uncle Earl), along with the inimitable dobro musings of Billy Cardine, recognized worldwide for his distinctive voice on all things slide, of whom Jerry Douglas has said, “I couldn’t have picked a better example of where the Dobro is now or what the possibilities are with the instrument.”
